Hmmmmmm

Out of storage for loading pictures... maybe time to end the blog since the girls are much more grown up than when I started and most people are on Facebook, anyway?  Something to consider.  Thoughts, anyone?

Birthday presents for Brooklin

We were lucky enough recently to have our little cousin/niece come for a visit right around her second birthday.

We got to got to her party, too, but couldn't wait that long to give her some birthday presents :).
A tiger!
And more ;)
Fun all around!

Keegan Quote

"Does my make-up look like obnoxious teen-ager make-up?"

Heh, heh, I'm not sure which answer she was hoping for!

Kelsey Quote

On why her little cousin doesn't respond the same way to the word "Mother" as she does "Mommy," "I don't think her brain is usually working like a thesaurus."

I just love this very true statement :).

Kelsey Quote

Keegan, "Kelsey, I need your help."

Kelsey, "With what, dear sister?"

I much prefer this to bickering ;).

Ambitious/Realistic Keegan Quote

"I was wondering if it would be possible to get a PhD in marine biology, wildlife biology, zoology, veterenarian, and be trained to be a zookeeper, play soccer, and be a cheerleader with a modest outfit all in four years."
Pause, "I don't think it's going to happen."

Kelsey Quote

"Mommy, Little Vols [cat] insulted me by socializing with the window instead of me."
Me "The window?"
"Yes, I was in my room and she sat in the window looking out instead of sitting with me."
One of the hazards of this gorgeous spring weather, I guess :).

*Note - This was written when we were actually having gorgoeous weather!

Titanic

In honor of  (that doesn't quite sound right :/ ) the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, and, I'll admit it, because of a great discount :), the girls and I recently visited the Titanic museum.

From the time of spotting the iceburg, the crew had only 37 seconds before impact.
A video game/simulator let us try to change course quickly enough to miss it.
We were unsuccessful.

Cameras weren't allowed inside, but we took a few pics outside.
The employees were great, really bringing the stories to life.
Also, a crew from USA Today was there, working on a story, so we got to follow them around a bit and listen to all of the cool things they were learning! (Watch for the story in April :).

The girls next to a replica anchor.  Titanic's center anchor weighed over 16 tons!!!!!!!
A side note, in case anyone is interested - Keegan was displeased I told her to wear something, "not ratty."  Haha.  According to her, her spring style is going to be "ratty t-shirts and sports shorts." I generally don't make an issue of clothes, but am not thrilled by this development :/.
We learned some interesting facts and stories and saw a life jacket (worn by John Jacob Astor's young wife) valued at over a million dollars.  Wow!
Such a tragedy, that also brought out so many acts of heroism.
Neat opportunity for us to learn :).

Keegy Quote

Keegan and Kelsey asked to cook pancakes the other morning and had a lot of fun mixing things up and taking orders.  Then Keegan came and told me they had formed a new company "K&K," whose motto was "Sometimes they cook, sometimes they clean, sometimes they just do everything." :)
Then she proceeded to explain to me that the cleaning part involved occasionally cleaning up something, but that that wouldn't happen very often, so it would always be a surprise if it did!
<3 her!

Final Ball Game

Basketball was such a fun experience for Kelsey!  We were sorry to see it end, but glad to have gotten to participate.
Kelsey had a great coach and a great team of girls who welcomed her even though she was new and inexperienced.
And from having never dribbled a ball before she progresed to this - making a steal!

Bringing in the ball
Ready to make a pass

Where Kelsey really grew was on defense - she was small, but a real obstacle!  The girl Kelse is guarding is trying pass the ball into the other half of the court.

Kelsey did not make it easy!

A super season and an all around great experience!

Kelsey Quote

"You know, 'Carnival' [the last show she was in] is full of songs that are so sweet until you hear that one part."

This is SO true about this musical!!!!

Practical Kelsey Quote

Caitlyn, before Kelsey's basketball game, after Kelsey got a hair cut, "Kelsey, you may want to pin your bangs back because although you are used to having bangs, you haven't had them cut like that and they might get in your face and irritate you."
Kelsey, "Probably I will just sweat and that will stick them down."

Euwwww.  But hahaha, too!  That's my girl!

Kelsey Quotes

While practicing her handstands....,
"If my shirt falls up just remember I'm not in public."
and

"Never laugh when you are upside down."
Can't argue with either of those :)!

Caitlyn's way with words

I asked Caitlyn to tell me about the world history she had been reading and I loved how she phrased it.  Two examples were these observations-
"There was a lot of fighting among the European nobility," and
"Then along came the Netherlands to create more trouble."

:)

Kelsey Quote

Me, wanting to show what Caitlyn had been doing in math that day, "Bill, do you know how to balance equations?"
Bill, "No."
Kelsey, having heard this type of thing before, "Daddy, did you ever go to school and did you ever listen to the teacher?"

TMI

Keegan read in her zoology book all about worms - how you can get them, what they do inside your body, etc. - ugh!  I am so glad she likes her book, but, yuck, there is just some information I don't need to have :p.

Baby Brooklin!

Recently we were thrilled to get to spend the day with our niece/cousin Brooklin!
She is almost two and completely adorable.  We all love getting to spend time with her.

She LOVES going up and down the steps and the girls were very patient walking her up and down,
and up and down, and up and down....
...enough that she had to give it up and take a nap despite her best intentions ;)
Then she woke up with this bed head.  Ha, ha!
How cute is that?!?!

Here, the cat was surprisingly pleased when Brooklin offered her the dustpan :)
What a sweet smile - so precious!
Brooklin and (a little bit of) Kelsey, giggling about something
Still smiling at the end of the day -
 We love this little girl!!!!!

Contorted Caitlyn

Caitlyn has a habit which is either horrid or wise, depending on your perspective.  While we read or chat before she goes to bed, she stretches.  I am glad she is a committed dancer, but am pretty horrified to see some of the positions she gets herself into!
She always claims, "It doesn't hurt," but I am sure she must be mistaken :)!

Fun with Friends

We recently had the fun of some dance friends coming to visit.  We are very glad they did!!!!

Brooke, Brielle, and Caitlyn are all ballerinas.
We took some head shots of the girls, then some just for fun :).

This picture is so funny, I love it!

Timo is adorable and never lacks for attention when Kelsey or Keegan is around!
Keegan, Katie, David, (and Kelsey) played a lot of tag, hide and seek, and relay races.
Here they are making stickers in Keegan's room.  It cracks me up how Keegan's shirt blends in with the wall.
LOVE this - Keegan has a dry erase wall sticker in her room.  On it, she had her weekly schedule and David added this note.

While Caitlyn, Brooke, and Brie attended a ballet class, the moms and younger kids found a great park!
We hadn't gotten to see these guys in a while and were so glad we got to!

Christmas Cooking

Yes, these are a little late, but I came across them and realized I never posted them, so I am doing it now  :).

For years, the girls and I have enjoying baking and making cookie trays for our friends at Christmastime.  It is one of our favorite traditions.  Here is a sampling of what we did this last Christmas....
 Buckeyes!

Caitlyn and Kelsey, ready to sample the chocolate suckers :)

We ALWAYS make and decorate sugar cookies, with a lot of effort going into making them look just right.
Here is Keegan is working on hers, and a sample of the finished product.

This year we had some extra decorating icing, so they expressed their creativity with some freestyle designs.

This year we made buckeyes, sugar cookies, chocolate suckers, crackers kisses, brownies, and red velvet cookies.

We love, love, love doing this and I love all of the memories we have made.  I hope we will continue for many years to come :).
